Meet the Root family! Don and Jen bought their home on East Shore Dr in February 2012. They weren’t familiar with Minerva Park but were drawn to its unique houses, mature trees, and family-friendly atmosphere. As they welcomed their children, Evie (5) and Sammy (2), they have come to love the close-knit community of neighbors. They have built strong neighborhood connections—whether it’s themed dinners, game nights, or getting the kids together to play.
The village became even more special when Don’s parents moved to Farview!
Don grew up in the Clintonville area and graduated from OSU with a degree in nursing. He earned his Master’s degree from Ohio University and is a certified nurse practitioner. He has been with OhioHealth for 8 years.
Jen grew up in Alexandria, KY, and attended the University of Kentucky, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders. She later moved to Columbus to attend OSU, where she earned her Master’s in speech-language pathology. She works as a speech-language pathologist for Dublin City Schools, focusing on elementary students. Since becoming a mom, Jen works part-time but enjoys staying connected with students.
Don and Jen met while working at a medical center during college and are celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary this year with a tour of the Pacific Coast Highway! The couple enjoys traveling; both had the opportunity to travel abroad during college and have since enjoyed cruises and many vacations together.
If you’ve shopped East Shore during the MPCA Garage Sale weekends, you may have met the Roots. They collect donations for the sale, with all proceeds going to Bittersweet Ministries, a non-profit organization that addresses economic hardship in Tijuana, Mexico, through community partnerships. The family also enjoys MPCA children’s events, spending time at the pool, walking the village paths, and watching the kids put on performances at the amphitheater!
Fun facts:
Don was a member of the OSU Glee Club and traveled to Europe for two weeks during college. They performed in many countries including at the Notre Dame Cathedral. He is currently part of a barbershop quartet and they hope to perform out soon!
Jen is a black belt in taekwondo and is a speed reader! She is part of a book club and speed reading is handy to finish books while staying busy with family!
Jen also traveled abroad during college spending a few weeks in China and a summer in Spain!
Don and Jen both studied Spanish. While they are fluent, they can speak to each other in front of their kids without them understanding! I personally think that is a great skill and better than spelling every word!
